All the gymnasts have the opportunity to take part in whole club events such as the annual Club Championships competition and displays.

Little Learner Classes

For our youngest gymnasts age from 3 years to 5 years. These classes use a variety of equipment, both soft play and miniature equipment to develop key motor and co-ordination skills.

Sutton School of Gymnastics preschool coaches aim to develop each child to the best of their ability at their own pace. You can expect your child to be taught in a friendly, happy, but disciplined environment. Gymnasts are encouraged to develop independence and also key life skills such as co-operation, friendship, and teamwork.

Gymnasts in our Little Learner classes have the opportunity to participate in our annual club championships competition.  From Little Learner classes, your child may be selected to enter one of our prep squads or will progress to our Bronze Development classes.

Important: Parents of gymnasts in our Little Learner classes must remain on site during their child’s class. There is a waiting room with viewing available for your convenience.

Bronze Development Classes

These classes are suitable for gymnasts age 5-7 years or for children progressing from our Little Learner classes. These classes use a variety of equipment designed for growing bodies. They use smaller apparatus such as the miniature a-bars which are designed for smaller hands, along with some larger and full sized apparatus such as the vault and beam so they can start to experience the full sport whilst keeping their activities suitable for their ability, age and size.

Girls and boys groups warm up together but then separate to train in separate groups.

From Bronze Development classes, gymnasts will progress onto our Silver Development classes or may get selected by the management team to enter one of our prep-competition squads.
Bronze Development Classes

Silver Development Classes

These classes are for gymnasts aged 8 and over and are either new to the sport, or have progressed on from our Bronze Development classes.

Like the Bronze Development classes, boys and girls may warm up together but then separate for training as the gymnasts work on different apparatus. The boys will get their hands on the parallel bars whilst the girls are working on the beam.

The gymnasts will develop their skills in line with the National Gymnastics Awards Programme.

As the gymnasts progress they may be offered a place within an Advanced Development class to further progress their skills or they may be offered a place within a competition squad.

Advanced Development Classes

These classes are for gymnasts aged 8 and over who have been selected to train within a more advanced group due to their talent.

The gymnasts can develop higher level skills and continue to achieve their NatGap medals, without the required commitment of a competition squad. The gymnasts spend longer working on each apparatus, and soon start learning and achieving more demanding skills.

From here, the gymnasts may stay within their advanced development group and continue to develop, or they may be offered a place within a competition squad.

MY Club (Teenagers)

A fantastic new programme from British Gymnastics for teenagers.

MY Club is a programme that gives teenage gymnasts an active role in the ownership of their gymnastics activity and is a great way to help clubs to keep teenagers participating in the sport.

MY Club encourages gymnasts to work with a coach to plan their own sessions, decide on what they would like to do, achieve and manage their own development.

MY Club is about fun and friendship as well as training and learning new skills.
